Blizzards, BMX & Mince Pies
|
Back in November me and Phil had a plan. We'd drive down to sunny Cornwall to session some concrete parks just before the Christmas holidays, and just after my dissertation was handed in... What more could you want? Well as it turned out, a bit of sunshine wouldn't have gone a miss... I seem to have this misconception that Cornwall has some sort of endless summer with tropical temperatures, farmers harvesting their crops and people drinking cider and eating pasties on the beach. So we ignored the weather forecast and headed down there anyway.
An amazing sunrise started us off on the drive, but this turned into a North Pole blizzard as soon as we hit Cornwall…..my dreams were shattered… We stocked up on mince pies from the service station, and decided to head to Mount Hawk indoor park instead. My housemate Andy nearly melted our faces with toxic gas bombs fueled by last night's fish & chips… Good work. When we got there, we met up with local Martyn Tambling at the park, and we gradually began to defrost and have a bit of a spine mini session, and play about on the street course where they've got a cool hip thing. Andy took a few snaps here and there and it made for a fun day.
When I went to get a nice refreshing beverage from my bag, I realised that the key to my locker had no number on it, and as I hadn't taken notice of which one it was, I spent the next half hour checking every single one of them, over and over…. Very clever…..
After a few more mince pies, we said goodbye to Cornwall and hello to Ronald McDonald on the way home. We need to get down that neck of the woods more often.
