Profile’s Tech Tip #29: Mind the Gap… Converting your axle from 14mm to 3/8

So you have a 14mm axle in your Profile Mini, Totem, Elite or Madera V-2 Rear hub and want to switch it to 3/8?

Let us guide you.

AXLES LABELLED

Considering the Profile/Madera hub shell bearings are exactly the same for 3/8 and 14mm, all you need is the 3/8 axle conversion kit.

Here are the two essential components to choose from:

Your choice of two inner 3/8 axles (Note: the inner axle for the Mini, Totem, and Madera V-2 are the same where the Elite’s is proprietary):

A. Chromo (recommended for peg use, though if you’re light on pegs, the aluminum version will work)

B. Aluminum (Comes standard for trails, ramp, race, and light street)

BOLTS LABELLED

The second option would be to choose your bolts. Keep in mind this is the second selection in the complete 3/8 conversion kit (which includes the standard 3/8 cones you will need):

A. 3/8 adapter washers (for use with existing volcano cones and standard 3/8 chromo or titanium bolts)

B. Titanium 3/8 to 14mm button head bolt (The built in shoulder will fill the 14mm gap in your drop out). Uses an 8mm allen wrench.

C. Chromo 3/8 to 14mm button head bolt (The built in shoulder will fill the 14mm gap in your drop out).Uses an 8mm allen wrench.

D. Chromo 3/8 to 14mm PEG button head bolt (The built in shoulder will fill the 14mm gap in your drop out and is long enough to convert a 14mm peg to 3/8 as well). Uses an 8mm allen wrench.

E. Chromo 3/8 to 14mm Hex head bolt (The built in shoulder will fill the 14mm gap in your drop out). Uses an 8mm allen wrench or 17mm hex socket.

F. Chromo 3/8 to 14mm Hex head PEG bolt (The built in shoulder will fill the 14mm gap in your drop out and is long enough to convert a 14mm peg to 3/8 as well). Uses an 8mm allen wrench or 17mm hex socket.

Once you have your parts selected, here is the assembly/disassembly for both 3/8 and 14mm. We hope this helps!
