Jared Eberwein and Extreme Thing
“I made a quick two day trip to Vegas for the Extreme Thing contest this past weekend, got off work at 1am thursday night/friday morning. Hit the road with a rockstar drink and some sweets, very desperate to stay awake. Ryan Galvan was kind enough to let me stay for a day an a half (thank you). I got to his place at about 4am. Ryan Guttler was there in big RV with a bunch of rad dudes also, so I crept into the house and found the first open spot that looked comfy and knocked out. Didn’t get much sleep that night because people were up early, so my day started off then. We all made a trip to Anthem skatepark, which is close to the house, rode for about 2 hours. We then went to ride the jumps at the contest. It was great to see all the familiar faces that you don’t see too often and have a good time with riding bikes. Rode for about a couple hours trying to get the course down, left for the night to be back for some more practice at noon the next day. I showed up the next day and on my second run of the day, it seemed as if something just grabbed my front wheel and threw me right to the ground. I don’t know what it was, all I knew that I was mad because I just jumped straight and slammed pretty hard. My left elbow, shoulder, and my head a bit, well helmet. Rung my bell a little bit, definitely sucked. I went a sat for a while, then came back to ride some more. It was getting close to the contest, I had no real plan on what to do. I didn’t end up doing so hot, I didn’t know what it was, I just couldn’t make things happen. Nothing felt good or safe to me, it was very uncertain wether it would work or not when I would try something. Only did a few things and played it safe, I ended up 18th. All in all it was a great short trip that I got to see a lot of good people. Had fun.”
