Profile’s Tech Tip #31: Spline Drive Differential (Race)
When it comes to choosing a spline drive sprocket for your race rig, Profile Racing offers four options.
While we’re getting into that, let us give you an additional brief history of our spline driven, race gears.
The first race specific spline drive sprocket Profile produced was the Elite, 19mm Spline Drive Sprocket above. At this point in our history, almost 10 years ago, we only offered 19mm cranks, hence this sprocket being 19mm.
Today, it is still our standard and we keep 5 colors in stock (Black, Polished, Red, Blue, and Gold) in sizes 36t through 45t with 3/32 teeth.
Soon after, we introduced our spline drive spiders for those who choose to use either 4 or 5-bolt chainrings. We offer both our spline spiders in 19mm for standard race cranks. Later, however, with the growing popularity of the 22mm Elite cranks, we had to produce a 22mm version of the spider. Considering 4 bolt spiders at that point had gained much more popularity, we made our 22mm version of the spline spider in 4-bolt ONLY.
Our 19mm spline spider in both 4 and 5-bolt are available in Black, Polished, Red, Blue, Gold, Purple and Green.
Our 22mm spline spider is only offered in 4-bolt in Black, Polished, Red, Blue, Green and Gold.
A couple years pass and we realized we had to make a solid chainring that could adapt to a variation of crank sizes on the bmx market. Considering Profile Racing does not do a 24mm crank, we thought it best to create a sprocket option to be more universal with the three standard spindle sizes available.
Introducing the Profile Sabre: Available in 36 through 45t in 3/32 teeth, black only, and is adaptable to our 5 universal sprocket inserts:
A. 19mm Bolt-On
B. 19mm Spline Drive
C. 22mm Bolt-On
D. 22mm Spline Drive
E. 24mm Bolt-On
We hope this helps?
